raeschae: (Other - Lonely in Bedroom)

It's been awhile since I've done one of these and there is only so many YouTube videos I can watch between loads of laundry. So I feel like writing some short and sweet comment fic. Anything goes; just remember that it's only going to be 1K (give or take) so try not to prompt anything too epic. Since I'm going to be busy for the rest of the weekend, I can only promise to fill one prompt per person. Anything from any of my verses is fair game, too.

In the meantime, I'm going to re-read some WIPs and see if anything nudges my BB interest!

ETA: This post is now closed to prompts. I'm so sorry I've been so slow in filling these! Hopefully, I'll get to a finishing a good portion of them this week - my vacation starts Thursday, so if I don't get yours finished before then, definitely look for it over the weekend!

J2: Soulmates since they were kids 1/2

Jared remembers his mom saying, when he was too young to really understand it, that he and Jensen were soul mates. Back then, they were just camping out in the tree house and fighting over GI Joe and ripping the heads off of Jensen's little sister's Barbie dolls together. He remembers Jensen used to like to threaten to beat him up – Jensen seemed so huge when he was nine and Jared was scrawny and only seven – but that he never followed through with it. He didn't have to; Jared would have done anything for Jensen back then.

“Do you remember that time you dared me to kiss you?” Jensen asks, the stem of his wineglass dangling between his fingers as he leans back in the lounger on the deck of his parents' house. “It was the first time we were allowed to take a walk around the block without supervision, and you stopped at the corner and dared me to kiss you like we saw Josh kiss that girl in the basement. Remember?”

Jared's mom rolls her eyes and pats Jensen's mom on the arm. “I told you they were too young to take a walk alone back then.”

Jensen's mom laughs along with the rest of the family gathered here to unwind after a ridiculously easy rehearsal dinner. “You were afraid they were going to get kidnapped in the suburbs, not make out on a street corner,” Jensen's mom says.

Bowing his head to take a sip of his own wine, Jared chuckles. “I think you're makin' it up,” he mumbles, though he remembers it perfectly in his mind. He also remembers hoping that Jensen would do it and then freaking out that he might. “I ran away,” he adds, feeling the heat in his cheeks when he looks up.

Jensen's eyes shine in the string of lantern lights around them. His free hand wraps around the back of Jared's hair and his fingers play with the soft hairs at the base of Jared's neck. “I was gonna do it, too.”

“Cause I dared you,” Jared fires back, meeting Jensen's eye. The smile that they share is witnessed by most of their relatives, but it feels like they're alone. As far as Jared is concerned, they've been the only two people in the world since they were kids.

*
Dead to the world and sleeping off tonight's wine in preparation for tomorrow's, Jared is jolted awake when Jensen grabs his shoulder and whispers, “C'mon,” in his ear.

“Dude, you scared me to fuckin' death,” Jared gasps when he realizes that someone is not trying to kill him in his sleep.

Jensen just laughs, the moonlight filtering through the window to catch the crinkles in the corner of his eye. “Come with me,” he says, one hand stretched out for Jared to accept his invitation.

Side by side in the cab of Jensen's truck, they drive past sleeping houses through desolate streets. The clock on the dash glows green, declaring it 2:13 in the morning when Jensen finally eases the truck to a stop near the creek just outside of town.

“Come here,” Jensen growls when they've shed their shoes and waded into the freezing cold water. His fingers catch in Jared's waistband and Jensen tugs him close before wrapping his arms around Jared's waist.

“This is where I stopped running away,” Jared laughs, watching the way the Jensen's eyes light up when he breaks into a blinding smile. It was Jared's sixteenth birthday and Jensen was standing with his hands in his pockets, their shoulders barely brushing, when Jared said, “I dare you to kiss me.”

Just like that night, Jensen closes the slight distance between them and kisses Jared like he's been waiting nine years for the invitation. “You gonna freak out on me this time?” he asks when they part.

Jared shakes his head, smiling at the memory. “You gonna wait for me all night on the front porch if I do?”

He can still remember knowing that they were going to be okay, that they were going to make it, that Jensen was the right guy for him, when his momma came up to his room the next morning and told him that Jensen had spent the entire night on the porch and claimed he wasn't going home until he knew that Jared was okay.

“I don't think I'll have to,” Jensen laughs softly. “I think our families will knock down your door and drag you out if you don't show up tomorrow.”

With a sigh, Jared runs a hand over the top of Jensen's head and down the side of his face. “I'm not freakin' out this time.”

*
Bless him, but Jared's brother cannot tie a Windsor knot to save his life. He swears that he can, but the evidence is to the contrary at the moment. When he finally gives up and lets Jared's dad step in, Jared heaves a sigh of relief.

“You nervous?” his dad asks, tightening Jared's tie to his throat and then loosening it a little bit.

Jared loves that he can shake his head honestly. “I'm just ready,” he says.

A soft knock on the door interrupts whatever Jared's dad is about to say next. When Jensen pops his head in, Jared feels himself relaxing fully. “Can you guys give us a minute?” he asks his dad and the other guys using his room to get ready for the big ceremony.

Everyone pats Jared's ass on the way out of the room, obnoxiously reminding them that good boys wait until after the wedding to do nasty things to each other. By the time Jensen steps into the room and shuts the door behind him, he's blushing a little and shaking his head.

“Tell me again why we thought this was a good idea?”

Jared watches Jensen cross the room in his charcoal gray tuxedo pants and perfectly-tied silver tie. “You're the one that proposed,” Jared reminds him. “Sort of.”

They bought the house Jared grew up in when Jared's parents decided to move into a condo after his sister got married. Jensen was on the floor, trying to plug his computer in after the furniture was all in place, when he looked up at Jared and said, 'It'd probably make our moms happy if we made this official, ya know?'

“You're the one that said yes,” Jensen argues, leaning against the large picture window that overlooks his parents' backyard. “Sort of.”

Jared's exact response to Jensen's musing that day in the office was to roll his eyes and push Jensen onto the floor. When they were making dinner together in their new kitchen a few hours later, he said, I think we should do it. For them, I mean.'

“I bought you something,” Jensen says, hand plunging into his pocket as Jared tilts his head and watches the way Jensen smiles like a kid with the world's biggest secret. “It's not big.”

They've already agreed that they're not ring guys, but the minister has the leather and platinum wrist bands they settled on instead.

Jensen opens his hand to reveal a small GI Joe action figure – King Cobra, the same one he broke when they were little, the one that made Jared cry even though he tried so hard not to. “Jesus, man, you're still cryin' about it,” he teases.

Slipping a hand into his own pocket, Jared blinks rapidly and pulls his own gift out. “No way is this as cool,” he warns.

With a wary eye, Jensen takes the gift and considers it. “It's a pencil,” he says finally.

Jared nods. “It is. Made from the floorboard of the tree house. The one you fell through when you were eleven.”

It's Jensen's turn to blink back tears, shaking his head as he runs his thumb along the smooth wood that holds so many memories between them. With a deep sigh, he looks up and, for what seems like the millionth time and the first all in one, his entire face lights up with the force of his smile.

With a clear of his throat, Jared reaches for Jensen's hand. “Alright. Let's do this.”
