raeschae: (Jared - Down to Business)
[personal profile] raeschae
So I've spent the last two days bemoaning the fact that there's no hot water in my building until Monday, and coding my Big Bang. I know I don't post for another couple of weeks, but I'm getting too excited! The problem with all of this excitement is that I can't stop tweaking the story, and I'm about to reach the point where it does more harm than good to mess with it.

That's where y'all come in. I know it's Sunday, and everyone's probably otherwise busy, so this might fall completely flat. But I'm proposing another 'caring and sharing' meme. Here's what I'm thinking: Let's talk fic. More to the point, characters.

My question: If you could spend twenty-four hours with one fanfictional character, who would it be, and why?

My answer on this will probably change in about twenty minutes, but as of right now, I would choose the Jared in [livejournal.com profile] astrangerfate's BB, Things We Can't Untie. I'm not a huge fan of slave fic, but this is not your average slave fic. The moral, ethical, and political issues are what made it so fascinating for me, and this Jared - so strong in his submission - is a guy that I would love to spend a little time getting to know. From the deleted scene at the end of the story: “Whatever you do, make it big. I thought that the Revolution needed my words. Well, I was wrong. The Revolution doesn’t need words. It needs Molotovs. Thank you.”

On a slightly related note, sort of, I just finished [livejournal.com profile] fleshflutter's spy fic, Someone You Might Have Been. For many of the same reasons listed above, I'd take twenty-four hours with her Jensen, so desperate to believe in something, to sacrifice himself to something that matters, but being so unsure of just what that something is anymore. From chapter 23: ". . .I mean people didn't catch Jensen's attention like causes did. By the time I met him, he'd gone through wanting to save the whales, wanting to save the ozone layer and was right up to wanting to save the world."

I guess my kink for people who are totally sold out to the causes they believe in is showing, huh?

So what about you? I'm anxious to hear who sticks with y'all, and why you're so drawn to those characters. Feel free to disagree with my selections - I'm all for everyone feeling free to express their own opinions, whatever those opinions may be!

I would like to spend 24 hours with the nyxie's Jensen from "But Then My Homework Was Never Quite Like This." Why??? Uhmmm just to talk see if I could get in that thick Dom! shell of his. Or maybe Jared From Your Disclaimer 'Verse. I mean that not to suck up to you but because he really facinates me...and I'd love to get a tat from him.

Well maybe I'm not gonna be very original, but seriously ? 24 hours ? Of course I'll spend it with Jensen from that verse caled Disclaimer verse ? Maybe you've heard of it... And no I'm not saying this to please you, but because Jensen is the coolest character of all.
We'll hang out at work to see his new collection, then he'll show me some moves at the skate park, then we'll go home, hang around the pool and eat take out at the end of the day ;o) Of course my luck will be to meet Jared in the same time, difficult to see Jensen without seeing his other half sometimes during the day ;o)

Also if I have a secnd choice to make, I would like to spend a day in the tour bus of Chris/Steve/Jensen and Jared from the verse called "The Tour verse". I like this verse and it's universe. Of course it would be cheating cause I'll have to hang with all the characters, but hey who cares ? ;o)

Hm. I think you'd have a hard time getting to know that Jensen in 24 hours. You'd probably have a hard time getting that Jensen to talk to you in 24 hours. Be an interesting experiment, though, for sure.

I don't feel like you're sucking up - I didn't propose this question to make anyone feel like they had to mention my characters, but I trust that you guys know that about me by now - I'm glad he fascinates you. Again, I'm not sure how much you'd learn about the guy inside the shell, but he'd definitely show you a good time. ;)

Who wrote The Tour Verse? I don't think I've heard of that.

And thanks for the Jensen shout out. That's not why I asked the question, but I'm glad you like him enough to want to hang out with him.

It's from incompletework2, here is the link ;o)

jensen/chris and Steve are in a rock band. At one point they need to hire a bodyguard for Jensen and it'll be Jared ;o). Later on Mike and Tom join the fun ! I love that fic.

J2 and Music? I'm all over it - bookmarking it to read because it sounds like it's right up my alley.

Thanks for the heads up!

And it's pretty long, which makes the fun last longer ;o)
I can't wait to hear what you have to say about it once you'll read it.

I'll definitely let you know! I'm in a J2 music mindset right now, since both guys are ginormous music dorks in my Big Bang, so I'll dig in just as soon as I have the time to really sink my teeth into it. Exciting!

I want to attend simarillion's glaciology!Jensen's lectures. Or maybe sail on the Plastiki with him. :D
(You have a kink for people with too-big causes. I've got one for smart scientist characters. I guess they take on too-big causes, too. ;_; Plastic bag PPT makes me cry every damn time.)

I need to re-read the fics you've linked to before I can make any comment about them. :)

I highly recommend both of the fics I mentioned - I had seen the Spy Verse recced a thousand times, and I remember trying to get into it once before, but this time it kind of hooked me and wouldn't let go.

I love smarty-pants Jensen, too, so I'll have to check that verse out, too. I think I've heard about it, but never read it.

The one character that popped into my mind was Jensen from thenyxie's Homework 'verse. I think he is one of the most fascinating characters within fanfic, the layers and the obsessions he got is just...wow. And also the pure intelligence of the character, the dry wit and the way he is a slave to his own mind at times.
I don't know how many times I have read that story, it get's to me every single time.

I have to agree with you on Jared from Things We Can't Untie, that story really got to me, and Jared's strength was stunning. I did hesitate to read it cause slave fic isn't my thing, but dystopians really are so I caved in and I am very happy that I did.

Brayden, duh. And we'd be locked up in the poolhouse and not come out.

Just kidding. Well, sort of.
Honestly, I think I would love to be with Jared from [livejournal.com profile] longsufferingly's When You Care Enough To Hit Send verse. I, clearly, wouldn't do anything sexual with him, but his character is so realistic, I seriously feel like I could run into him and he would act exactly the same in my world as he does in his. I don't really know how to describe it, I guess I just feel this sort of connection to him. He's a lot like me, or who I would be in a situation like his. And I am narcissistic and would like to be around people who are like me. :D

I won't argue that the Homework Verse Jensen is intriguing. I'm still not sure you'd get anything out of him in 24 hours, but I understand the desire to know more, to dig deeper.

I didn't realize how much I liked dystopian fic until I read Things We Can't Untie and Kant's Dove, one right after the other. Now I want MORE!

It's funny you mention the When You Care Enough to Hit Send Jared, because I was thinking that I'd love to hang out with neurotic, easily-embarrassed, socially-awkward Jensen from that 'verse when I posted this. Anybody in that 'verse, really. It's one of my go-to happy place fic, when I need a quick, smiley pick-me-up.

And you can have your twenty-four hours locked in the pool house with Brayden, but I absolutely do not want to hear about it. La La La La La. (I still see him as that twelve-year-old from the first story.)

Well don't make me start here. J2 in bands are my favorite fics. I play guitar myself and can't resist the life of a band on tour, especially if it includes J2 ;o)
Here are two other fics of this same genre :
http://sophie-448.livejournal.com/48001.html
http://thenyxie.livejournal.com/538217.html

There was this awesome fic from matchstickmen of J2 in a punk band but her LJ has been delated. It's too bad and I hate when it does that !!

I have always been into them, 1984 being one of my favourite books of all time and things, so I turn bouncy happy when I find good stories like that. Bouncy happy in a totally depressed way you know, cause...yeah...dystopians aren't really big on the fluff.

Well, no. I mean, Jared still doesn't understand him fully after 10 years so 24 hours wouldn't be close to enough. But still.. it would be a glimmer of it. I love intelligent people so could probably just sit and listen to him lecture all day and be happy :P

As for your characters...well, I wouldn't need to do anything. I could seriously just drool over the Disclaimer-boys for 24 hours straight. Cause the J's with tattoos and piercings are... yeah.. *cold shower*

hope this is OK but I thought of another one. Sam from the "Shut the gates of Mercy" 'Verse. As for why..not sure other than to ask why he likes being in that kind of a relationship.

Beautiful Disaster was not one of my favorite fics ever, but I did really enjoy To Wake a Captive Dreamer. You're a way bigger woobie!Jensen fan than I am, so I'm sure we like it for different reasons, but I really did enjoy that one.

Stuck on Delete was that matchstickmen fic, and I did really like it. I liked the easy development of the relationship between Jared and Jensen in that one - and the original bandmate characters were cool, too!

Homework Jensen teaches Physics, right? Yeah, I could not sit and listen to him lecture all day. Well, I could sit and sleep while he lectures, but I get what you're saying. ;)

Thanks for the Disclaimer shout-out, though that's not at all why I started this discussion. I kind of drool over the thought of them, too - it's probably why the damn story takes over half of my journal. :)

Is Shut the Gates of Mercy the BDSM one where Sam asks Dean to be his Dom after Dean gets back from Hell, or am I mixing that up with something else?

Date: 2010-06-27 07:12 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] sd-singer.livejournal.com
yeah that's the one. its pretty full on. starts out before Dean goes to hell though and continues on.

To tell you the truth i had a hard time finishing "Beautiful disaster" which I found quite long... But because it was about music, I felt like I had to finish it ! lol !!
Sometimes it's like I'm on a mission when I read fics.
And yes I really enjoyed way more To Wake a Captive Dreamer. It's been a long time since I read it so I couldn't tell you now why I liked it but maybe the woobie!jensen really is a good reason ;o).
And whoa you have good memory, I couldn't rememeber too much of that punk!fic, just that back then I liked it.
Are you gonna write J2 in a band ?

Haha, not sure I would actually get all he was lecturing about but yeah, I would listen! Or you know...look. Aaanyway.. *cough*

Nothing wrong with those boys taking up half your journal hun.. it's a good thing!

I actually got that spy story you mentioned waiting as a podfic, never gotten around to it. Got so many podfics waiting...

Ya know, I read that fic way back when I first starting reading in this fandom. I think it had two parts at the time, maybe three. Is it bigger than that now? I'm more a fan of D/s than BDSM, but I remember that one being pretty intense.
