So, I woke up at 5:30 this morning with an upset stomach and starting watching The World Series of Poker on ESPN, as you do, until it was time to get ready for work. It was there that I heard this quote (I have no idea who to credit for this as I know nothing about the pro Poker circuit. I know he was wearing a hat. And sunglasses.): "Lady Luck hangs out with the guys who practice hard." So, uh, let that inspire you? I don't know, I just liked it. I was also sick, so take it for what it's worth, I guess.

A giant THANK YOU to [livejournal.com profile] kiwiana for the Katie/Genevieve fic she wrote me in the [livejournal.com profile] spn_fs_exchange, Those Nights Belong to Us. If femslash is your thing, check it out!

So, I decided to pinch hit for the [livejournal.com profile] spn_fs_exchange and am currently putting the finishing touches on that fic, then I'm clear until [livejournal.com profile] j2_afterclass in January. Well, I have a [livejournal.com profile] hs_bingo card to play with but it's not due until May so I'm, ya know, procrastinating.

I ♥ you guys, but I suck at holiday cards and gifts. What I can do is comment fic. Here are the stipulations:

1.) Fic will be roughly 1000 words.
2.) No pairing is off-limits.
3.) You can request more than one prompt but I can only promise one fill per person, so make sure the fic you most want to see is prompted first.
4.) Prompts can be holiday-themed but they don't have to be, unless they come from the Disclaimer 'verse.

ETA: All prompts have been filled!

I hope you're feeling better now.

I swore to myself I wasn't going to ask for disclaimer ficlet but I'm sick and I'm totally blaming the antibiotics for this.

So... Disclaimer boys + Christmas tree/decorating the house.

Also, you are totally awesome for doing this.

Jensen’s is fidgeting. Jared’s pretty sure that Jensen is noticing the way Jared is watching him fidget, but he’s not stopping. He’s got one hand on the steering wheel, the other on his thigh, thumping a disjointed rhythm along with the radio. At least, Jared thinks it’s supposed to be along with the radio; frankly, it just looks like he’s having muscle spasms.

“Dude, what is wrong with you?” he finally asks when they’re about three miles from home.

Shooting a sidelong look in Jared’s direction, Jensen shakes his head and rests his elbow in the window, his fingers toying with the ring in his eyebrow like he always does when he’s nervous about something. “I’m good,” he lies.

When he passes the exit to their apartment, Jared shifts in his seat and raises an eyebrow. “You forget how to get home?” he asks, thumb pointing over his shoulder.

“Errand to run,” Jensen explains. He’s gripping the steering wheel so tight his knuckles are turning white.

Something is very, very wrong but Jared doesn’t even pretend to know where to start figuring out what it is. Jensen is never this shifty – hyperactive and spastic at times, sure, but never like this – so he’s getting a little freaked out.

The parking lot in front of the Christmas tree farm is almost empty, the few cars there parked at odd angles, when they pull in and Jensen kills the engine. Letting out a heavy sigh, he leans forward and rests his forehead on the steering wheel.

“Are we getting a Christmas tree?” Jared asks, watching one of the employees light a cigarette at the corner of the parking lot.

Jensen turns on him like Jared asked him to shave his head and start wearing a tie. “Look, I know it’s dorky or whatever, okay? I just. We have this place now, and I thought. Fuck, I don’t know what I thought. This is dumb.”

Covering Jensen’s hand with his own, Jared stops him from starting the car. “It’s not dorky,” he says, pulling back to lean against the window. “I love Christmas.”

From the skeptical look Jensen is shooting his direction, Jared can tell that he doesn’t believe it. The truth is that, for most of his life, Christmas has been the one time of year when people act like they want him around. If his foster family sucked, his friends’ families would invite him over. They always found a way to make extra room for him at the holidays.

Jensen just huffs and shakes his head. “Just when I think I have you figured out,” he mutters, climbing out of the car and waiting for Jared to join him.

They got together before Christmas last year but this is the first time they’re going to be sharing a space, decorating and establishing routines and traditions of their own. They won’t acknowledge that, of course, but Jared thinks it’s pretty cool.

He spent years looking forward to Christmas because it meant somebody would notice him, love him, want him around. It’s different this year, having someone in his life who’s done all of those things all year long. It’s a better reason to celebrate.

They argue over which tree they want, what colors they want the ornaments to be, how much they’re going to spend on this thing in total. Jared says they should keep it simple; Jensen, as always, wants to fly over the top, to make their little living room look like Rockefeller Center or something.

They end up spending what is, in Jared’s opinion, too much but it’s kind of exciting and Jensen is happy so he figures there’s no harm.

Once they’re back in the car again, Jared takes a deep breath and lets himself appreciate the fact that he has a home this Christmas, a house and a family of his own. It’s more emotional to consider than he thought it would be.

“We should have a party,” he hears himself say. He can’t blame Jensen for looking at him like he’s lost his mind. They’ll go to a party anywhere, at any time, but they don’t throw them. Ever. “Nothin’ crazy. Just, I don’t know. Maybe on Christmas, we can throw down an open invite to whoever wants to show? Order some food, let our friends know they can stop by whenever, if they need to.”

For a long time, Jensen just keeps staring at him. Jared’s pretty sure he’s going to say that it’s the dumbest idea he’s ever heard.

Instead, Jensen smiles and nods. “Yeah, I think that sounds good.”

*grins*

Thank you Rae, this was so perfect!

As you know, Disclaimer!Christmas is one of my happy fics so I absolutely love having the backstory of how it all started.

I love getting inside Jared's head a little and that he ends up giving into Jensen and his more extravagant decorating ideas. Now I'm totally convinced that they have the coolest lights and decorations in their whole block and Jared secretly loves the whole thing.

I'm so glad you liked it!

I've always imagined that the guys pay someone to decorate their house at Christmas, now that they have the money to do it, but I kind of like the idea that they still have a tree in their bedroom that they decorate together. ;)
