So, I woke up at 5:30 this morning with an upset stomach and starting watching The World Series of Poker on ESPN, as you do, until it was time to get ready for work. It was there that I heard this quote (I have no idea who to credit for this as I know nothing about the pro Poker circuit. I know he was wearing a hat. And sunglasses.): "Lady Luck hangs out with the guys who practice hard." So, uh, let that inspire you? I don't know, I just liked it. I was also sick, so take it for what it's worth, I guess.

A giant THANK YOU to [livejournal.com profile] kiwiana for the Katie/Genevieve fic she wrote me in the [livejournal.com profile] spn_fs_exchange, Those Nights Belong to Us. If femslash is your thing, check it out!

So, I decided to pinch hit for the [livejournal.com profile] spn_fs_exchange and am currently putting the finishing touches on that fic, then I'm clear until [livejournal.com profile] j2_afterclass in January. Well, I have a [livejournal.com profile] hs_bingo card to play with but it's not due until May so I'm, ya know, procrastinating.

I ♥ you guys, but I suck at holiday cards and gifts. What I can do is comment fic. Here are the stipulations:

1.) Fic will be roughly 1000 words.
2.) No pairing is off-limits.
3.) You can request more than one prompt but I can only promise one fill per person, so make sure the fic you most want to see is prompted first.
4.) Prompts can be holiday-themed but they don't have to be, unless they come from the Disclaimer 'verse.

ETA: All prompts have been filled!

“The hell is that?” Jensen asks, nose turned up as Tom drops a plate onto the sketch Jensen is working on.

“It's Mike's grandmother's latke,” he explains.

“Does she know you stole it?”

Tom nudges his shoulder, worried grin on his face. “C'mon, man, you gotta try it. I gotta know if it's okay.”

“Dude, I don't know how it's supposed to taste,” Jensen points out. He loves Tom, really he does, but the latke does not look appetizing and Jensen's not about to risk his digestive health on it. “Ask Mike.”

With a sigh, Tom flops down in the chair at Mike's desk. “It's supposed to be a surprise. We're hosting his family for one of the nights of Hanukkah this year and I wanna make some of their favorite dishes.”

As awful as it probably sounds, being as Mike's one of his closest friends, sometimes Jensen forgets that he's Jewish. He always spends Christmas at Jensen's place, but so do most of their friends so it's not like that tips him off. He forgets that Sophia and Danneel celebrate the Winter Solstice, too. Everyone just always shows up on the 25th and eats too much. By five or six, Jensen forgets what holiday he celebrates, most years.

“This your first time meetin' 'em?” Jensen asks. Tom nods and Jensen pushes the plate away before the smell of charred oil and potatoes makes him nauseous.

Tom and Mike have been fooling around for years but this is the first Christmas that they're officially, really a couple. As disgusting and Jensen finds them most of the time, he can't deny this is a pretty big deal. It's nice to see Tom taking it seriously, even if he is a neurotic fuckhead about it.

Pushing back from his desk, Jensen stands and grabs his key from the basket under the window. “C'mon,” he says, waiting for Tom to join him. “Let's run down to that kosher market on the Boulevard and see if they can help you out.”

Tom follows him, grinning from ear to ear, through the store and out the front door, where he nearly collides with Jared. “Sorry, man,” he apologizes quickly.

Jared looks between Jensen and Tom, brow raising in concern. “Am I gonna get a call to come bail y'all out?”

Grabbing a quick kiss, Jensen spins his keyring on his finger and explains, “We're goin' to get Hanukkah food.”

“Of course you are.” Jared doesn't look any less confused.

“So I can finally win some brownie points with Mike's family,” Tom fills in the blanks.

With a nod, Jared snakes a hand into Jensen's back pocket. “You can't cook,” he points out simply, though Jensen can see a million other insults and barbs on the tip of his tongue. Jared likes Tom, but there's some weird, competitive thing going on there that he's never really understood.

“That's why Jensen is helping me.”

There's no real tension here, but there's enough of something uncomfortable that Jensen feels the need to divert it. “Why don't you go ask Danneel what she does for Solstice while we're gone? I'm thinkin' maybe this year we try to incorporate everyone's beliefs into our party?”

One of Jensen's favorite things about Jared is that he knows how to read Jensen's cues and when to back off. Well, most of the time he knows. With a nod and another quick kiss, he heads inside and leaves Jensen to lead the way to the parking lot.

Tom's quiet for a long time, almost the entire drive to the market. When he does speak, he sounds worried. “Do you think this'll work at all?”

Sighing, Jensen pulls the car into the parking lot and kills the engine. He'd like to lie and tell Tom that it'll be awesome and everything will work out. He knows from experience that it doesn't always happen like that.

“I think Mike'll be blown the fuck away that you're trying. He's the one that matters in all this, ya know?”

Tom's smile says everything that his words don't. Even if his family hates it, Mike will still love him. That's enough.
