Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] atimi,

This was really surprising and kind of hard. It was fun to look back at everything I've done this year, though.

Total word count for the year: ~263,580 (without comment fic)

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
I definitely wrote more than I thought I would going into this year, though in looking back I realize it's not as much as I thought I had when I started adding all of the word counts.

Where did you publish/archive your stories?
At my own journal, mostly, though I did do a couple of things for the [livejournal.com profile] spn_fs_exchange that were posted on that site, and a couple of other comment memes in other people's journals.

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January 2010?
girl!Dean/Lisa - at that point, I was pretty adament that I couldn't write SPN at all.

What's your favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest?
Coda. Hands down.

Now, what's your most popular story?
Disclaimer, by far.

Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?
I don't know about risks. I did new things. Threesomes and femslash jump to mind.

Challenges: [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang, [livejournal.com profile] spn_30snapshots, [livejournal.com profile] schmoop_bingo, [livejournal.com profile] spn_reversebang, [livejournal.com profile] spn_fs_exchange, [livejournal.com profile] spnthreesome, [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_xmas (Holy fuck, there was a lot!)

From my past year of writing, what was...

Best story
Coda. From a writing perspective, I worked harder on that one than I've ever worked on a story and I feel like it paid off in the end.

Most under-appreciated by the universe
Better than Sex. I was really proud of that one, but it's not one that stands out much. Maybe that's why I'm so proud of it. IDK.

Most fun
Exhibition: The Coffee Verse. I don't know what happened with that one, I guess the planets alligned or something because that fell together and flowed so easily for me. I really enjoyed writing it.

Most disappointing
The Consultant. It's hard to pick because I'm not really disappointed with anything I write, but I hit a wall with that one. I had a lot of ideas that I never had the time to incorporate and I was never perfectly happy with the final result. The art that [livejournal.com profile] tinkabell007 did was awesome, though, so that was good.

Story that could have been better
Creative Control. I like most things about that story, but every time I look at it, I see something else that I could have tweaked or developed further. Actually, I always feel like that when I read my stories, like something could be better. Ha.

Story that changed your own perception of the characters
Another Crossroads. I had to think about this one long and hard, but it's the first (and so far only) SPN fic I've ever written and I really examined Dean and Lisa for a long time to figure out how their relationship would work if Dean was female. I ended up thinking a lot more about the dynamics of Lisa as a character, though, so that was new for me.

Most sexy
Exhibition: The Coffee Verse. It's less blatantly-sexual than most of my other verses, but I feel it's the most seductive. I know I mentioned this one before, too, but Better than Sex is another one that I think it sexy without tripping into porny.

Story with the sweetest moment
Kings of Promise. The final moment of that story, with the three guys driving down the coast as the sun is blazing and 30 Seconds to Mars is playing on the stereo sticks with me. I don't even know why. Since most of what I write is pure sugar, it's hard to narrow it down to just one.

Story that made you cry
The First Day, which was a HS AU comment fic I wrote for [livejournal.com profile] kubis for National Coming Out Day, and Falling in the Black, when Jared is talking to Steve in Jensen's hospital room. I don't cry, not often. For some reason, those two hit me in just the right way at just the right time and I did tear up writing them.

Hardest to write
The Consultant. I was so out of my depth, writing something that had an actual plot instead of just schmoop upon schmoop and I doubted myself A LOT throughout that process.

Easiest to write
Exhibition: The Coffee Verse. I've never had a story flow as easily as that one did, ever.

"Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story
I honestly don't think I have one. This makes me sadface. :(

Most eye roll-worthy title
Baby Daddy. It works for Brayden in that 'verse, but it's such a terrible title. It still makes me laugh.

Most unintentionally telling
Instead of listing them all, I'm just going to say that I wrote a lot of fic this year where Jensen is either really grouchy and snarky or is basically kind of a dick. I honestly can't tell anymore if I just have a kink, or if I'm kind of Mary Sueing him. /o\

Most overdue
There's one fic that I promised a couple of people way back in the spring - it's still on my jump drive, waiting for me to find my way back to it again. Otherwise, I think I'm pretty well caught up!

This year's theme and the story that demonstrates it most
For me, this was a year of changes. I had three new nieces and nephews born, all seven weeks early, and my siblings both made life-changing decisions to move away and start new chapters in their lives. I rediscovered how much I love the blood that I was born into, but also some really strong friendships IRL and in fandom. So, I guess it only makes sense that Change is the Only Constant would be the story that most demonstrates that.

Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year?
My fanfic goal for this year is actually to write less. I want to focus on writing things that I'm really proud of and that are important to me. I'm not saying that they're going to be fine literature, but I want to get better, to be better. I definitely want to be more concerned with quality than quantity this year, so we'll see how that manifests itself.

Agree? Disagree? Did I forget something that stands out to you? Let me know!

Obviously I've missed some of your fics because I don't recognize some of the titles, so I'll have to catch up on them. But 200+ words, holy crap! That's a lotta writing yo! Congrats. I wish I could be that prolific. My favorite of the ones I read I think is the coffee verse, but Coda is a very close second.

Wow! Almost 300,000 words before your comment fics, that's cool! I will have to go find Coda and read it again so I know which story makes you the happiest.
have a very Happy New Year!

Hello! Just wanted to tell you something about Coda...
A little while ago I was looking through your masterlist (I'm such a lurker, sorry) because I'd loved Creative Control so much and wanted to read more of your stuff. When I found Coda, I nearly combusted: I'd already read it (it must've been when you first posted it) and was absolutely besotted with it, but then I'd lost it. Couldn't remember who wrote it, what it was called. Complete blank. So, I just wanted to tell you how overjoyed I was to find it again. Also, that the realisation that you'd written that as well as CC made my brain explode a little bit. Just so's you know :D

Ha! That's awesome. I'm glad you liked it enough to remember it when you found it again!

I do that all the time, constantly find myself asking friends, "What was that one story where Jensen was a (insert random profession here)? No, you know the one where Jared did (insert random situation or circumstance) and he likes (whatever Jared might have liked)? Yeah, that one! What's it called? Well, who wrote it?"

Awful, isn't it? I can usually hazard a guess at the author, going by style, but I'm terrible with titles so if someone has written a lot of fic I'm usually screwed.

Also, I read the comment further down about CC Jared. I'm still hoping you might write more about him, you know... I could always come along every so often, prod you in the ribs about it and scurry away again if that would help? It would, you say? Okay, great, I'll do that then. Glad to be of service :)

I really liked Coda a lot. A LOT. I thought it was really well done, and complete. And be positive! Instead of thinking that Creative Control could be better, look at it like there are more possibilities to expand the verse!

xo and Happy New Year!

Thank you!

And I think you're right - I think there are possibilities with Creative Control. The thing that always nags at me is that, while he's the POV of the main story, you don't ever learn a whole lot about Jared. I always wish I had developed him further. But I have gotten a chance to delve a little further into his mind in subsequent timestamps, so that's a good thing!

I have all of the Big Bang fics from this year bookmarked, but I haven't had a chance to ready any of them yet because I am still trying to get semi-caught up on Fandom. (I know... I'm ridiculously behind.)

So I will be reading Coda really soon, and knowing how you feel about it - I'm looking forward to reading it very much! :)

PS: I hope you're having a wonderful New Year so far. ♥

Oh, I hope you like it (Coda). It is definitely my favorite thing I've ever written, possible not just in this fandom. There's some other other really fantastic stuff out there, too, so I hope you enjoy getting all caught up!

If you want a couple of recommendations, I would suggest [livejournal.com profile] elizah_jane's In Becoming Who We Are (http://elizah-jane.livejournal.com/84873.html) and [livejournal.com profile] makeit_takeit's Screw You, We're From Texas (http://makeit-takeit.livejournal.com/7249.html#cutid1). Those two stand out in my mind as a couple of my absolute favorites, along with [livejournal.com profile] rhythmsextion's Hail Mary (http://timewillbe.livejournal.com/37818.html) (though that's a sequel, so if you haven't read the first one, Next Man Up (http://pianoforeplay.livejournal.com/24444.html), that one might not do it for ya. I also really enjoyed [livejournal.com profile] glorious_spoon's We Drank a Thousand Times (http://glorious-spoon.livejournal.com/18253.html), but it's Dean/OMC, so I don't know if that's your thing or not.

Alright, I'm going to stop giving you information you absolutely did not ask for now. ;)
