So, I woke up at 5:30 this morning with an upset stomach and starting watching The World Series of Poker on ESPN, as you do, until it was time to get ready for work. It was there that I heard this quote (I have no idea who to credit for this as I know nothing about the pro Poker circuit. I know he was wearing a hat. And sunglasses.): "Lady Luck hangs out with the guys who practice hard." So, uh, let that inspire you? I don't know, I just liked it. I was also sick, so take it for what it's worth, I guess.

So, I decided to pinch hit for the spn_fs_exchange and am currently putting the finishing touches on that fic, then I'm clear until j2_afterclass in January. Well, I have a hs_bingo card to play with but it's not due until May so I'm, ya know, procrastinating.

I ♥ you guys, but I suck at holiday cards and gifts. What I can do is comment fic. Here are the stipulations:

1.) Fic will be roughly 1000 words.
2.) No pairing is off-limits.
3.) You can request more than one prompt but I can only promise one fill per person, so make sure the fic you most want to see is prompted first.
4.) Prompts can be holiday-themed but they don't have to be, unless they come from the Disclaimer 'verse.

When Jared holds up a hand on day five and wiggles his fingers, Jensen shakes his head adamantly. “If you are thinkin' about what I think you're thinkin' about, you can fuckin' think again.”

Jared has enormous hands and that's usually a bonus. Still, there's a chance he might have a truly terrible idea that involves a fist and Jensen’s ass – he’s mentioned it before - and Jensen wants no part of that.

Chuckling, Jared nods toward the bed and says, “Just lie down and trust me.”

Trust is something that Jensen's never been very good at, but he does what he's told anyway. When Jared works all five fingers through his hair, giving him the most glorious scalp massage in the history of the world, Jensen thinks maybe trusting Jared isn't the worst decision he's ever made.

On day four, Jared steals Jensen's truck for an afternoon and gets his tires rotated, something that Jensen has been meaning to do for weeks but hasn't because work keeps getting in the way.

He finally manages to find exactly the gift he wants to give Jared on day three. He's hanging up the phone after making the final arrangements when Jared hands him a heavy gift bag. Mickey Mouse is wearing a Santa hat on the bag and Jensen figures that doesn't bode well for anyone.

Inside, he finds a Lord of the Rings box set. He doesn't remember telling Jared that he lost his other set in the move a few months back.

When he looks up to find Jared beaming back at him, he realizes that he never did. Jared just knew.

Jared refuses to let Jensen go into the office on Christmas Eve, opting to keep him naked and distracted most of the day. After whipping up a batch of the lasagna Jensen loves so much, Jared hands him a plain envelope.

Jensen gapes when he opens the two plane tickets to Dallas, dated for tomorrow. “Are you … what?”

Wrapping his arms around Jensen's waist, Jared shrugs. “You said you wanted to spend our first Christmas together, just the two of us, but I know you. You wanna be with your family, too.”

It's true, he does. Jensen just wasn't sure that Jared would be up for the stress of a big family holiday after only eight months together. He was perfectly happy to stay here this year, but this. This is better.

On Christmas morning, a few hours before they have to leave for the airport, Jared drags Jensen downstairs for his final present. He admits that he’s worried the new bag of golf clubs under the tree won’t live up to yesterday’s surprise but Jensen just tells him to shut up and kisses him until his ‘thank you’ turns into more of a ‘forget Texas, let’s get fucked.’

They’re interrupted by the doorbell just as Jared’s hand slips under the hem of Jensen’s flannel pajama pants. “Are you kidding?” Jared groans, his head falling back as he sighs in disappointment.

Jensen just grins. “You’re probably gonna wanna get that,” he says.

It takes everything he has to stay back, to watch from a distance, as Jared pulls the door open and gasps a deep, surprised breath. “No way!”

He sounds just like a kid on Christmas morning when he bends and then turns, wriggling ball of blond Retriever in his arms. Danneel is standing just beyond the threshold, giving them their space, and she shares a knowing smile with Jensen before tapping her watch and walking away.

Voice shocked and small, Jared meets Jensen’s eye and says, “You got me a puppy.” It’s possible there are tears building in the corner of his eye, but they never fall so Jensen can’t be sure.

With a shrug, Jensen says, “You kinda threw a wrench in my master plan yesterday,” as he rounds the couch to rest a hand on the squirming dog’s head. “Danneel says she’ll keep him until we get home, though.”

Jared got him twelve presents. Jensen got Jared one. Watching Jared sink to the floor, letting the new puppy crawl and lick all over him, he thinks maybe one is enough.

the thought jared put into everything for jensen was really warming. but, jensen totally won with the puppy. jared is for sure a puppy kind of guy. this was the perfect amount of schmoop. kudos.
